Somewhere on the Border

Somewhere on the Border

Written in exile, intercepted in the post and banned as a publication by apartheid censorship because the language was considered "offensive" and the portrayal of the South African Armed Forces "prejudicial to the safety of the state", the Argus hailed Somewhere on the Border as "the toast of the Grahamstown Festival" when it opened in South Africa in 1986.

Kopstukke

Kopstukke

Adapted for the stage by Alexa Strachan, we get to know Clara as she unburdens herself  in letters, e-mails and faxes to her unfaithful husband, sisters and female friends.

Grooot Grap!

Grooot Grap!

Two of the big role players in the Afrikaans theatre industry have put their heads together to create a new production that promises a laugh a minute. Giep van Zyl (GZ Productions) and Kosie Smit (Kosie House of Theatre) will bring an unusual comedy extravaganza to the Big Top Arena at Carnival City on the 10th of November this year. This will be the first production of its kind in Afrikaans.

Actress, singer and chef Elzabe Zietsman and pianist and cocktail connoisseur Rocco de Villiers shared the stage after 16 years.

kuifman

kuifman

South Africans are soon to encounter Kuifman (a ‘kuif’ is a fringe as in hair, ergo Fringeman). Wim Vorster, who mounted his controversial Kruispad at last year’s Grahamstown National Arts Festival, is both author and actor in this instance. Kuifman is a middle aged (“Come on, sixty plus is old!”) gay man who shares his experiences, his embarrassments, his uphill battle/s and triumphs with the audience. The script is a potpourri of wit (naughty, hilarious or grim) and compassion with some serious moments to boot.
